There are some fundamental recommendations that global textile and leather companies can implement to address sustainability in the supply chain:

  • Plan a long-term sustainable strategy.
  • Develop a proactive stance and demonstrate willingness to invest in the future by implementing sustainable supply chain practices.
  • Communicate goals throughout all levels of the supply chain and leave no one behind.
  • Bring key suppliers on board and create sample strategy. This step will help you in the scheduling and budgeting process.

Step 4: Testing

The testing phase is addressed to wastewater and to chemicals on raw materials.
Testing wastewater requires specific knowledge, experience and corresponding equipment. Proper sampling is the first phase of the analysis process and is important to assess wastewater quality per the specific technical standards of the ZDHC wastewater regulations. Wastewater tests, which are conducted by accepted laboratories including UL laboratories in Europe, Africa and in the Asia Pacific region, determine safety measures against the use of prohibited and high-risk chemicals. For all on-site wastewater assessments, UL tests wastewater for the existence of chemicals and dangerous substances and assesses wastewater and chemical management to identify the associated risks.
Testing chemicals on raw materials is a fundamental process. UL test chemicals to certify their compliance with the MRSL, based on the requests of chemicals manufacturers and formulators.
