On January 11, 2019 the National Industrial Chemicals Notification and Assessment Scheme (NICNAS) has issued a notice that the implementation of the reforms to establish the Australian Industrial Chemicals Introduction Scheme (AICIS), including the national ban on the use of data derived from animal testing to support the introduction of cosmetic ingredients will be further delayed.

The legislation to establish the new ACIS and set its new commencement date is now expected to be debated in the Senate in the first half of 2019.

The Liberal National Government looks forward to implementing the ban on July 1, 2020.
