Australia’s Department of Health is seeking comments on the Proposed Amendment to the Current Poisons Standard for paracetamol medicines.
This consultation sets out the following proposed amendment to the Advisory Committee on Medicines Scheduling (ACMS)‘s meeting in March 2019 (ACMS # 26):
- Amend the terminology in the Poisons Standard from ‘slow release’ paracetamol to ‘modified release ‘paracetamol; and
- Up-schedule modified release tablets or capsules containing less than or equal to 665 mg of paracetamol from Schedule 2 to Schedule 3 of the current Poisons Standard.
The draft also provides the following:
- Warning statements included under the entry are specified in Appendix F, Part 3.
- Key uses/expected use and reasons for proposal are also discussed in this consultation.
Public consultation is open for this draft until October 31st, 2018.
