Austria’s Ministry of Health has amended Toy Regulations 2011 to incorporate chemical limits for lead, BPA and phenol.

This amendment consists of the following additional entries in Annex 2:

  • Lead — 2.0 ppm (Category I); 0.5 ppm (Category II); 23 ppm (Category III)
  • BPA — 0.04 ppm (migration limit) according to the procedures of EN 71–10: 2005 and EN 71–11: 2005
  • Phenol — 0.05 ppm (migration limit) in polymeric materials according to the procedures of EN 71–10: 2005 and EN 71–11: 2005 and 10 ppm (content limit value) as preservative according to the procedures of EN 71–10: 2005 and EN 71–11: 2005

In addition, it also amends Section 16 (2) to read:

2. Toys which, in terms of lead, comply with Annex 2, Part III, Z 12 of this Regulation but with the provisions applicable to date, may be placed on the market and left until 28 October 2018. Toys conforming to Annex 2, Annex C to this Regulation but to the provisions applicable to phenol, may be placed on the market and left until 4 November 2018. Toys conforming to bisphenol A and not to Appendix 2, Annex C to this Regulation, but to the provisions currently in force, may be placed on the market until 26 November 2018. ”

The amendments were enforced on October 24, 2018.
