Brazil’s National Institute of Metrology, Quality and Technology (INMETRO) has released Decree No. 9,315 Regulating Maximum Lead Limit in Paints, Varnishes and Similar Materials on March 20, 2018.

This decree establishes the maximum lead limit (600 ppm) allowed for the manufacture of paints, varnishes and similar materials used for surface coatings to follow Law No. 11,762 of 08/01/2008.

This applies to paint for real estate and children’s and school use, of varnishes and similar materials for surface coating, as defined in article 2.

Testing laboratories to be considered should be accredited by INMETRO, ILAC (International Laboratory Accreditation Cooperation) or other international accreditation forums of which INMETRO be a member.
