Colombia’s Ministry of Industry, Commerce and Consumer Protection has released Decree on the Adoption of Globally Harmonized System (GHS) of Classification and Labelling of Chemicals (Decree No. 1496 of 2018).

This Decree adopts the Globally Harmonized System (GHS) of classification and labelling of chemical products. This Decree specifies the following:

  • Classification of chemicals and its hazards must comply with the GHS of classification and labeling of chemicals based from United Nations’ Sixth Revised Edition (2015).
  • Safety Data Sheets (SDS) must be prepared and kept available as defined in the GHS. SDS must be updated with new information and dangers of certain chemicals.

This Decree was enacted on August 6th, 2018.
