The European Commission (EC) has issued Draft Commission Implementing Regulation Laying Down Rules for Provision of Food Information to Consumers. 

This regulation lays down the provisions of information on the country of origin or place of provenance of the primary ingredient as required by Article 26 (3) of Regulation (EU) N° 11692011 

This proposed regulation establishes the indication of the country of origin or place of provenance of the primary ingredient with the following: 

a. with reference to one of the following geographical areas 

b. or by means of a statement as follows: 

  • Name of the ingredient’ originates from the ‘country of origin, or 
  • the place of provenance of the food)” or any similar wording likely to have the same meaning for the consumer. 

The specific presentation of the information is also set out in this proposal. 

This draft is open for public consultation until March 12, 2018. The proposed enforcement date is on April 1, 2019.
