Member States have voted unanimously in favor of a proposal to restrict DEHP, DBP, DIBP and BBP in articles. These four phthalates are on the REACH candidate list as substances of very high concern (SVHCs) for their reprotoxic and endocrine disrupting properties.

The proposal restricts these phthalates to a concentration equal to or above 0,1 % by weight individually or in any combination in any plasticised material in articles used by consumers or those used in indoor areas.

The proposal was approved on July 11 by the REACH Committee. The European Parliament and Council have three months to evaluate the proposal before the European Commission adopts it.
