The Standards Institution of Israel is consulting the public on the notification on nickel from articles intended to come into contact with human skin in Israel.

This notification contains the Revision of the Mandatory Standard SI 5562, dealing with the nickel release in contact with human skin.

Standard SI5562 will be replaced by:

1.) SI 1811 – a reference test method for the release of nickel from all post assemblies that are inserted into pierced parts of the human body and articles intended to come into direct and prolonged contact with the skin. The revision adopts both European and US standards, with some national deviations, but allows compliance with both; and

2.) SI 16128 – a reference method for testing spectacle frames and sunglasses for nickel release, which adopts the European standard while also allowing some national deviation.

The consultation was open until February 15, 2018. The proposed date of entry into force is 60 days after publication in Israel Official Gazette, Section of Government Notices.
