Starting May 30, 2017, the Korean Ministry for Food and Drug Safety (MFDS) will require a food allergen labeling system.  Allergens identified in the system are: eggs, milk, buckwheat, peanuts, soybeans, wheat, mackerel, crab, shrimp, pork, peaches, tomatoes, sulphites, walnuts, chicken, beef, squid, shellfish (oysters, abalone, mussels, etc.)

Guidelines for the labeling are:

  • For food sold in the market, the names of related raw materials are required to be labeled around the product names or product price, or set unified label on the brochure or poster.
  • For food sold online, it should be labeled on the related websites.
  • For food ordered by telephone, leaflets with allergens and labels must be provided.
