Labor unions and labor rights organizations in Myanmar are pushing for a higher daily minimum wage. The current daily minimum wage was set in 2015, and is supposed to be reviewed every two years. Members of the National Committee for Minimum Wages have accused the labor minister of ignoring their proposed new minimum wage due to the low counteroffer. Debate over the increase has heated up as the December deadline for the Committee’s proposal approaches.
