Singapore’s National Environment Agency (NEA) has issued Enhanced Control of Mercury-Added Batteries Under the Environmental Protection Act on January 3, 2018.

This Regulation specifies the limit allowed for mercury-added batteries to enter Singapore. The Regulation specifies the following:

  • All batteries including button cells containing more than 5 ppm by weight of mercury per cell are not allowed.
  • Importers/traders if stand-alone batteries are required to submit a once-off declaration of compliance with supporting documents, to show proof that the batteries comply with NEA’s requirements.
  • Importers/traders of batteries bundled with products are only required to submit declaration of compliance and supporting documents upon request by NEA.
  • List of HS product codes are listed in Annex A.

The Regulation was enforced on March 31, 2018.
