The National Assembly of South Africa has proposed PMB-2017 Animal Protection Amendment Bill. This bill aims to amend the Animals Protection Act, 1962, (Act No. 71 of 1962) and the Foodstuffs, Cosmetics and Disinfectants Act, 1972.

This bill proposes to prohibit the sale and manufacturing of cosmetics that were tested on an animal.

The bill also specifies that any person who will violate this will be liable to a fine not exceeding R40,000 or to imprisonment for a period not exceeding 10 years.
