On January 31st, 2020, the Bureau of Standards, Metrology and Inspection (BSMI) of Taiwan announces the new update on the relevant inspection requirement for toy products. The amendment specifies the appropriate inspection requirements for toy products based on their identified products hazard risks.

The new inspection regulations and requirements by the Bureau are as follows:

  • Medium-Risk Toy Products
    • With 62 items/products of reference classification
      • Monitoring Inspection or Verification Registration (Type Test – Mode 2)
      • Conformity Type Declaration (Mode 3)
  • Low-Risk Toy Products
    • With 23 items/products of reference classification
      • Conformity Type Declaration, supported by the following technical documents: Type Test report issued by BSMI or BSMI-designated laboratories
      • Type Classification Table of the declaration of conformity signed by BSMI or BSMI-designated laboratories

The amended inspection requirements will be enforced on March 1st, 2020 with a six-month transitional period until September 21st, 2020.
