Testing

The Environmental Protection Agency of Taiwan has issued testing methods for determining the presence of plastic microbeads in cosmetics and personal cleansing and care products.

This contains the testing methods for determining the presence of plastic microbeads in cosmetics and personal cleansing and care products. The sale or use of such products containing microbeads will be prohibited from January and July respectively.

The test methods will use Fourier transform infrared spectrometers (FTIR) or Raman spectrometers to identify whether products, after dilution in warm water, contain plastic microbeads between 0.05mm and 5mm.

This announcement was enforced starting January 1, 2018.
