Advisory and Education Audits Chemical Management Expedited Compliance Inspections SmartInsights™ Global Market Access Platform TestingOn August 28, 2018, the Bureau of Standards, Metrology and Inspection (BSMI) of Taiwan has mandated CNS 15290:2018 to establish the general requirements for the safety of textiles.
This mandatory standard includes the requirements and test methods for free formaldehyde, prohibited azo colorants, cadmium, lead, organic tin, nonylphenol ethoxylate (NPEO) and nonylphenol (NP), as well as physical safety requirements.
A limit of 90 ppm is set for paint on textiles intended for children under 12 years of age, while any amount of cadmium is prohibited to be present in all textiles and clothing accessories.
CNS 15290:2018 applies to the security requirements of the following:
- textiles for infants
- textiles directly contacting the skin
- textiles not in direct contact with the skin
- textiles for interior decoration
Geotextiles and textiles for insulation, radiation resistance, high temperature resistance ‚and other protections are exempted from the list.
