Taiwan’s Bureau of Standards, Metrology and Inspection (BSMI) seeks public consultation to amend the legal inspection standards of children’s raincoat. The proposal intends to make changes to the inspection standards for children’s raincoat by adopting the updated version of the standard CNS 15503 “General requirements for safety of children’s products,” which was published on October 18th, 2018.

The amendment proposes to reduce the number of restricted phthalates from eight (8) to six (6), including the following:

  • Bis(2-ethylhexyl) phthalate (DEHP)
  • Dibutyl phthalate (DBP)
  • Benzyl butyl phthalate (BBP)
  • Diisononyl phthalate (DINP)
  • Diisodecyl phthalate (DIDP)
  • Di-n-octyl phthalate (DNOP)

The sum of the total mixture of these phthalates must be less than 1,000 ppm.

Dimethyl phthalate (DMP) and diethyl phthalate (DEP) are deleted from the scope. The revised proposal is open for public consultation until March 8, 2019.
