On March 13th, 2020, the Bureau of Standards, Metrology and Inspection (BSMI) of Taiwan has notified World Trade Organization (WTO) of the publication of “Legal Inspection of Baby Carriers.”
In response to the concerns raised by the public about the safety of baby carriers due to incidents in recent years that resulted in severe injuries to infants, BSMI will regulate the safety and quality of baby carriers.
The inspection standard applicable for baby carriers which includes soft carriers is CNS 16006–2 (2017). The conformity assessment procedures required for the products are Batch-by-Batch Inspection (Type Approval) or Registration of Product Certification (RPC) Scheme (Module II + III).
Under the RPC scheme, manufacturers must have their products type-tested by the BSMI or designated testing laboratories recognized by the BSMI (Module II) before applying for registration of their products. Manufacturers or importers will also be required to ensure by declaration (Module III) that all products made at their manufacturing facilities are in conformity with the prototypes submitted for type testing in Module II.
This notification comes into effect on July 1st, 2020.
