The Republic of Turkey Ministry of Food, Agriculture and Livestock has published a new legislation on food contact materials (FCMs), consisting of a general regulation on FCMs and another one covering specifically active and intelligent materials intended to come into contact with food.
This new regulation was published in Turkey’s Official Gazette on April 5th, 2018. This replaces the previous one dated from 2011. It requires that materials do not release their chemical constituents into food at harmful levels or change the composition, taste and odor in an unacceptable way.
With the new FCM legislation, Turkey aligned its rules with the EU regulations on FCMs (EC) No. 1935⁄2004) and active and intelligent materials intended for contact with food (EC) No. 450⁄2009), The deadline to conform with the new laws is end of 2018 or end of 2019 for some exceptions.
This Regulation became effective on April 5, 2018.
