On October 9, 2018, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration has published 83 FR 50487 for the Final Rule on Food Additives Permitted for Direct Addition to Food for Human Consumption, removing Styrene.

This Rule amends the food additive regulations to no longer provide for the use of styrene as a flavoring substance and adjuvant in food.

This Rule is based from the food additive petition submitted by the Styrene Information and Research Center (SIRC).
