On Oct. 6, 2020, the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) has released the final rule amending the Rules and Regulations under the Textile Fiber Products Identification Act to incorporate the most recent ISO 2076 standard for generic fiber names (85 FR 8781).

The most recent version of the relevant standard, ISO 2076:2013(E), “Textiles—Man-made fibres—Generic names,” adds seven generic fiber names not defined in the 2010 standard such as:

  • chitin
  • ceramic
  • polybenzimidazol
  • polycarbamide
  • polypropylene / polyamide bicomponent
  • protein
  • trivinyl

The final rule is effective beginning on Nov. 5, 2020.
