The Uganda National Bureau of Standards (UNBS) has implemented the UNBS (Use of Distinctive Mark on Commodities) Regulations 2018, Statutory Instruments 2018 No.12, for all products whose standards have been declared compulsory.

Under the regulations, the Quality Mark, popularly known as the Q mark, must be declared as a distinctive mark and must be affixed on all imported and locally manufactured products of which compulsory standard specification has been declared. A permit to use the distinctive mark must be granted by the council.

These regulations are in line with UNBS mandate and are aimed at standardizing products alongside protection of consumers.

The new regulations will come into force on October 30, 2018.
