The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission has enforced the safety standard for sling carriers. The safety standard mandates that each sling carrier must comply with all the applicable provisions of ASTM F2907-15 Standard Consumer Safety Specification for Sling Carriers, approved on October 15th, 2015.
The safety standard also sets the attachment of warning labels and instructions for use, such as illustrated diagrams to show the proper position of a child in the sling. Warning labels must include the statements regarding:
- The suffocation hazards posed by slings and prevention measures
- The hazards of children falling out of slings
- A reminder for caregivers to check the buckles, snaps, rings and other hardware to make sure parts are not broken
This was enforced on January 30th, 2018.
