Testing

The proposed update specifies the following:

  • Banning of PFAS and ortho-phthalate for all packaging, effective 2 years after enactment. PFAS shall not be present above the detection limit, ortho-pthalates may be present up to 100 ppm incidental presence.
  • Adding of criteria for new toxic chemicals

The proposed update retains the restriction on four heavy metals (lead, cadmium, mercury and chromium (VI)) to no more than 100 parts per million (ppm) in packaging and packaging components.
