Vermont’s Department of Health has proposed to expand the amendments to its children products rule under Chapter 6 of the Environmental Health Rules.

The proposed amendment seeks to add lead and other 23 substances to the list of chemicals designated as chemicals of high concern to children. This increases the list of chemicals to 86. The proposal also requires reporting for any chemical that is added [to a product] for a specific function (not a contaminant), which degrades to or releases a listed chemical.

This proposal also adds amendments to the reporting years and periods, evaluation of chemicals for listing and its review, regulation of sale and distribution, and disclosure of information on chemicals of high concern used in children’s products.

The state accepted public feedback until February 8, 2019.
